Sagar for speeding up MGNREGA implementation
Stresses for transparency, adherence to guidelines

SRINAGAR : Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar has directed the officers of Rural Development Department to speed up the implementation of the flagship programme MGNREGA keeping in view the guidelines issued so that the more people get benefitted from the same.
The Minister was addressing a high level meeting of officers convened to review the status of implementation of MGNREGA here today. Commissioner Secretary Rural Development, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Peer, Director Rural Development, Kashmir Mir Altaf Ahmad, Director Panchayati Raj, Mr. Baseer Ahmad Khan, Director Social Audit Dr. A. G Sofi, Member Secretary MGNREGA Mr. Pawan Rathore, ACDs, Xens and other senior officers of the Department were present in the meeting.
Mr. Sagar directed the officers to ensure that the works being undertaking under the programme are strictly in accordance to the developmental needs of the particular areas. He said that the local representatives of those particular areas should also be consulted while identifying the developmental programme.
The Minister also called for ensuring that the payments to the persons identified under the programme should be made within the stipulated time period of fifteen days as envisaged under the Act. He said that the delay in disbursing the re-numeration to the beneficiaries of the scheme should be avoided.
The Minister also directed for uploading the MIS information on a regular basis so that an effective monitoring can also be ensuring about the status of works done, beneficiaries identified and the payment made to the human resource. He also called for holding regular social audits so that a feedback can also be got about the status of implementation and the norms being followed.
“The Utilization Certificates should also be furnished well in time to the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj, so that future instalments are released well in time”, he maintained. Mr. Sagar also asked the officers to take due cognizance of the complaints if any and ensure speedy disposal of the same.
He said that we have to ensure accountability and transparency in the implementation of the scheme so that the benefit goes to the genuine beneficiaries and area specific works are taken up.
