Jammu, Aug 24: In the last one decade ever since the ceasefire agreement was signed between India and Pakistan on November 26, 2003 the Pak army has violated ceasefire for over 400 times, defence experts observed.
Expressing concerns over the recent spurt in the ceasefire violations by Pakistan Army, the official sources pin pointed that since the inking of ceasefire agreement in 2003, the confronting neighbour Pakistan has breached truce for over 400 occasions till date.
Official sources said following the inking of historic agreement as a major step in Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) to break the thaw between two nations, the first ceasefire violation took place on January 18, 2005 in Poonch sector when Paksitan resorted to unprovoked firing on Indian posts. "Two days after another ceasefire violation was reported and since then the violations have recorded an upward trend, sources said. "The highest number of 93 ceasefire violations in a calender year were reported in 2012, they said and further added, "the trend has witnessed the highest crest this year as till at date Pakistan has violated ceasefire for over 85 times." Following surge in the incidents of violations the tension escalated along the line of control in Poonch.
However experts analyzing the trend of ceasefire violations by Pakistan said that at the micro level the first three years of ceasefire agreement were near peaceful as only three ceasefire violations were reported in 2006.
Following 21 violations reported in 2007 but the figure astonishingly touched number 77 in 2008.
Thereafter it plunged to 28 in the next year i.e. 2009 but once again it swelled in 2010 with 44 violations reported from across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.
In 2011, ceasefire agreement was violated for 51 times with an aim to push more militants inside the Indian territory.
