Jammu, Aug 24: A large number of journalists, young and veteran including several lady journalists from print and electronic media, wearing black arm bands, assembled at Press Club complex Jammu to register their protest against the gang rape of a photo journalist in Mumbai the other day. The protesting journalists remained in the Club for some time and demanded strict action against the rapists. The protesters left their cameras and other electronic equipments on the road to express their deep anguish for the crime committed by the culprits. Speaking on the occasion senior journalist said the country needs a tough Law and its strict implementation to deter the crime of this nature, not only against the women journalist but any women. He said the administration should assure safety of one and all. Veteran journalist, Harbans Nagokay said that man must respect the women as they were serving him as mother, sister, wives, children and colleagues. Speaking to the journalists, veteran journalist MK Bangroo said the journalists are in action at different places and situations. "Today one has become a victim in Mumbai, tomorrow it can be someone among us in Jammu and Kashmir or anywhere else. So it is important that we must express solidarity with victim and condemn the criminals", he said. Woman journalist, Santosh Khajuria said, it was good that a large number have gathered at Press Club of Jammu to protest against the rape of a Mumbai photo journalist. She also said that men are sensitized to this fact that the women have to co-exist with them honorably. |
