| PIL Seeks CBI probe in Cross- Voting of six MLCs seats | | HC dismisses two PILs with costs Rs 10,000 each | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 11(JNF): In the much publicized public interest litigation filed by SOS International through its Chairman Rajiv Chuni (now NC leader) and another filed by Rattan Singh Gill (Advocate-cum-Journalist) seeking CBI probe regarding cross-voting in six seats of MLC Elections which was held on April 13, 2011, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi today in open Court dimissed both the PILs with costs Rs 10,000 each with the observations that the detailed order will follow. After hearing Advocate SS Ahmed appearing for PIL and Advocate Aditya Gupta appearing for another petition filed by Rattan Singh Gill, Division Bench observed in the open Court that instant petitions lack public interest as there is no prima-facie evidence which may invite some action in the matter. Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi with Adv Parimoksh Seth, Adv Javed Iqbal with Adv Harsvardhan, Senior AAG Gagan Basotra appeared for the BJP MLAs and State. It is worthwhile to mention herein that in both the petitions, the petitioners had sought investigation into the alleged cross voting scam as according to the petitioners seven MLAs of the BJP indulged in cross voting as the BJP candidate Thakur Ranjeet Singh polled only 4 votes instead of 11. The petitioners had based their petition on certain media reports which suggested that certain MLAs allegedly voted on extraneous considerations. |
