Lifting the dead or preventing deaths? | Choice lies with IRCS | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 11: The Indian Red Cross Society, it seems is interested in fun rather than rendering services to the needy. A grand fanfare is on cards that will host a singing competition, dance competition, music programmes and much more on December 14 and 15 in the winter capital. The Raffle draw is also scheduled to be held on the concluding day of the function. The Society has been created for a noble cause. The singing competitions and dance competitions are being held by almost all the private and GOI owned television channels. There is, therefore, absolutely no need for the society to get involved in such trash. On the contrary the Society should have held a camp to equip young men with the tools needed in times of natural disasters. Jammu Kashmir unfortunately is located in a high seismic zone. If recent reports of experts are to be believed, a quake of 8 to 9 magnitude will wreak havoc across the state. The Society, therefore, has to widen its area of operation. It is not only meant for lifting the dead. It must train people to prevent deaths. The noble goal cannot be achieved by holding singing and dance competitions. Something more needs to be done. The sooner it dawns on the Society the better for the state. |
