Jammu, Dec 11 : Panic gripped in Gangyal area after an unidentified man snatched child being carried by her mother in sector no. 3, this evening, police sources said.
Noticing the man running with child and hue and cries of the lady, local shopkeepers acting swiftly overpowered the man and also informed the police. After receiving the information, police reached the spot and took custody of man.
During preliminary questioning, the identity of the man has been ascertained as Suman Chakarborty a resident of Kolkata presently putting up at Gangyal with his family members. Thereafter police informed family members of accused which informed police that the alleged accused is mentally upset and had no intention of lifting child.
Meanwhile when contacted Station House Officer (SHO), Gangyal Jasbir Singh told that police got the accused medically examined at nearby hospital and reports confirmed that the accused is mentally upset. Quoting the family members of accused, the SHO Gangyal further revealed that the family members of informed police that wife of the accused has left him following which he got mentally upset and whenever he sees a woman with child he tries to snatch the child for mistaken identity. |
