| HC bans parking of buses, alighting of passengers on Jammu Flyover | | Annoyed over traffic Jams , DB directs SHOs to regulate traffic | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 11 (JNF): In a Public Interest Litigation seeking regulation of traffic in Jammu City, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi expressed its deep anguish and displeasure over the traffic jams in Jammu City and directed all Station House Officers (SHOs) of every police area to ensure that there is no encroachment in the area under their charge and no vehicles operate without complying with norms prescribed for emission of pollution. The SHOs were also directed that they will ensure that there are no traffic Jams in their jurisdictions. Division Bench further cautioned that in case any violation is reported than the concerned SHO of the area may hold accountable. When this PIL came-up for hearing, Senior Advocate DC Raina appearing as Court counsel highlighted the issues of encroachments, traffic congestion and pollution. Court counsel referred to various orders passed by the State High Courts and pointed out that the orders have not been followed in letter and spirit as the traffic Jams have become common, encroachments as the order of the day and pollution caused by diesel fuel emitted by vehicles is unabated. The PIL took an interesting turn when the attention of the Division Bench was brought to the fact that the buses are being allowed to park on the fly over near bus stand Jammu. Division Bench took serious note of the same and directed SHO Incharge of the area to ensure that fly over is not used for parking of buses and alighting of passengers. These directions will also apply to all other SHOs in the city area wherever the buses stop for picking of the passengers or alighting them. With these directions of wide public importance, Division Bench directed that the latest report be filed by JDA as well as SSP monitoring all SHOs of the t City before December 31, 2013. |
