JAMMU, Feb 16: Taking a dig at poor quality of facilities being offered to the patients in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu, CPI (M) MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami from Kulgam said today that if a person like him had to go through a nightmarish experience in state's one of the biggest health institutions, then what would be the fate of a common man. Tarigami, who recently got admitted in GMC&H after experiencing chest congestion and pain, today attended the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly for a short duration. During his short stay in the House, Tarigami rose to narrate his tale of woes while recuperating in GMC&H. Tarigami said, "It is a pity that a premier health institution like Govt Medical College, Jammu lacks basic facilities like clinical tests. During my stay in GMC&H, I had to rely on private pathological laboratories to undergo some clinical tests as the hospital has no such facility," "Surprisingly, in these private laboratories, tests are being performed by those who are not even matriculates. I am surprised, how the government has issued certificates to such laboratories... The non-provision of some vital tests in GMC&H is a betrayal with the people of Jammu. I regret the non-professional approach of the government," he added. While responding to the Tarigami's accusations, the Minister for Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-din admitted to the lack of facilities for some of the critical tests in the hospital. "It is true that the hospital is unable to provide services for some of the tests for which people have to depend on private laboratories," said Taj. "For creating the best infrastructure within the hospital, we approached the Finance Department on several occasions urging it to enhance the non-plan budget but to no avail. We even asked for the permission to use revolving funds but again the response was unfavourable. We have equipment but lack of funds is a big hindrance in providing in-house facilities for undergoing tests," he added. Though Tarigami highlighted a major deficiency gripping the GMC&H on the floor of the House but not even a single MLA from Jammu region supported him and kept mum over the issue. |
