| One time foe Congress, becomes best friend of National Conference leaders today | | All is fair for echelons of power | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Apr 8: National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah seems to have forgotten that he is leading National Conference and not discharging his political obligations as a senior Congress leader more so as the Lok Sabha elections have already started. Dr. Abdullah goes on praising the Congress party and its leaders and says that Congress is the only party that can safeguard the interests of people of Jammu & Kashmir. The National Conference President not long ago accused the Congress party of sabotaging the interests of people of state. On Monday after filing his nomination papers for the Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha seat, Dr. Abdullah said that Congress party is getting strengthened with every passing day adding that party would emerge victorious after the 2014 Parliamentary elections. He claimed that there is no Modi wave in the country and the same is a figment of imagination by some people. In other words the statement that should have come from Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz came from National Conference President. It seems Dr. Abdullah wants to secure his position at the centre and at the same time also wants his son Omar Abdullah too fits the bill within the Congress circle. Political observers believe that the hailing of Congress by National Conference President is a step for ensuring that the Abdullah family doesn't lose out in the present era where coalition has become the order of the day. They said that both Dr. Abdullah and Omar know that they cannot live in isolation and have to shower praises on Congress leadership so that their future becomes secure. "National Conference was part of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee with Omar being a junior Minister in the Cabinet. For the means of power the NC leaders more so the father-son duo can go to any extent. The recent hailing of Congress party and its leaders is a part of the same game plan and nobody should be surprised," said political observers. Not long ago the NC leaders more so it's President and Additional General Secretary, Dr. Mustafa Kamaal referred to Congress as untouchables and said that there can't be coalition with such people. However, as on date these people seem have to forgotten their earlier statements in which they castigated Congress leaders for all the ills being faced by people of Jammu & Kashmir. The change of heart has not been there abruptly but it is a calculated move with the driving force being that Abdullahs want to stick to the power chair. "There was a time when National Conference had its cadres spread across the length and breadth of the state. In the present day context it is not so since parties like Congress and People’s Democratic Party have made inroads in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions. Given this situation the NC leaders realize that they should stick to what they have and not aspire for bigger things in the future," said political observers. |
