Vested interests continue to vandalize 'protected' monument | Baisakhi Mela begins at Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex | | Fresh orders on removal of vehicular mess go unheeded again Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 11: In utter disregard to repeated instructions and notices issued in recent past by concerned departments Mubarak Mandi complex, which is ironically state protected Heritage monument continues to be surrounded by parking mess, an unauthorized activity which goes on unabated, plundering its prestige and affecting the ambience of all valued structures of historical significance. In a series of such written orders and instructions, a fresh notice was published in the media asking the vehicle owners to clear the area by April 9 for a big event -Baisakhi Mela which is commencing from April 12 to April 16. As always it went unheeded as not a single vehicle was removed until Friday evening. It was few days back that a notice was seen in newspapers on behalf of Director Tourism stating that on account of Baisakhi Mela organised in Heritage complex from April 12 to April 16, 'all those who have parked their vehicles are requested to remove these by April 9 to pave way for making arrangements as also for free movement and convenience of the visitors to Mela. It was emphasized in the notice that if they failed to do so, the vehicles would be towed away by the Traffic Police. However, nothing of the sort happened. Neither did the owners give any attention to what was sought to be followed this time on a warning note, nor did the Director Tourism bother to see if the notice signed in his name was honoured or not. Until Friday evening, which is April 10, the scenario was as much same as it was earlier. Not to speak of Traffic authorities for whom such notices are just like any other formalities from apolitical bosses who perhaps do not matter to them nor do the officials take follow up actions into their own orders. This is not the first time that orders or instructions from Director Tourism have not made any impact on the ground in terms of clearing up the parking mess which is only increasing by the day. Earlier on, in the month of December last a proper strongly worded letter was written by Director Archives, Archaeology and Dogra Art Museum Nasreen Khan to SSP Traffic to remove the unauthorized parking from the area which is only proving to a menace for VIPs and dignitaries besides making movement inconvenient for its own staff, affecting the work of research scholars and impeding entry of tourists to this historical site. In the letter No DAMA 2891-92/AMA-222, it was clearly explained by the Director the urgency and need for taking this step. A part of the letter read ..."the main entrance of the building and entire structure remains so closed due to parking of private vehicles that even a single person cannot enter by foot into the office of the undersigned ( Director).....the vehicles are not removed despite repeated requests ..." Ironically, instead of any department taking serious note of what is desired to be there around the historical complex, more and more vehicles have added to already existing. Earlier it was only small cars, now it has become a parking slot for metadors, private taxies and even school buses. |
