New Delhi, June 8: The Union Home Ministry is working on an integrated action plan to deal with internal security challenges, including terrorism, Naxal menace and separatism. Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who has held a string of meetings with security and intelligence officials in the last one week, maintained on Saturday that the proposed move will help the agencies take balanced action against threats. “Whether its Naxalism, separatism or terrorism, a comprehensive integrated action plan is needed and my ministry has started work on it. We accept the challenge and based on this efforts will be made to take balanced action,” Singh said adding that UPA couldn’t formulate the integrated action plan despite ruling for 10 years. He, however, added that the NDA would take more than “one or two years” to set right the system “paralysed” by the UPA. In a review meeting earlier this week, the Home Minister had unveiled several plans to fill the gaps in the internal security apparatus. Ideas ranging from renaming the Naxal division as LWE wing to substantial hike in hardship allowance for security personnel fighting Naxalites were mooted to bolster the existing mechanism. Singh had also indicated securing the Naxal-dominated areas first by intensifying anti-Naxal operations to bring in development. The government is looking at sanitising the areas from the security point of view before the agencies get involved in development projects. The ministry is also reviewing its strategy to deal with cross-border terrorism and home-grown terror modules. Intelligence chiefs and the Home Secretary had given a detailed presentation on Thursday regarding activities of terrorist organisations like the Indian Mujahideen. Besides, the Home Minister is also keen on developing infrastructure in the Northeast region and increasing connectivity to counter insurgency.
