| JKBWA demands separate quota in MBBS seats | | | | JAMMU, June 8 : Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association (JKBWA) has demeaned separate quota of MBBS seats for medical students belonging to the Batwal Community. As per press release, Capt. Kamal Dass Kaith in a meeting held in Akhnoor which was attended by a huge strength of Batwal community members including unemployed youth and Plus Two medical stream students raised their demand. Members demanded share in reserved quota of MBBS seats for medical students belonging to the Batwal Caste which is recognized as Scheduled Caste in terms of Article 341 of the Constitution of India. The meeting said that the State Government has done nothing for the poorest Batwal Scheduled Caste community. "It has been totally neglected by the Government at all levels and this has been the reason of its backwardness and abject poverty", the meeting added. Expressing concern over step motherly treatment to the community, Association members said, "Our community has not been given any representation in any forum of the Government. They also said that the children of Batwal community belonging to poor families have to study in the Government Schools where due to poor education they could not receive quality education and compete with those Scheduled Caste children who study in top class private Academies/Schools. As a result, their children don't get selected for reserved MBBS and other seats filled by the competent authority (BOPEE). Also, in services the candidates of Batwal community are being deprived of reservation benefits, they added. Members, as such, demanded distribution of reserved quota of MBBS seats and posts among all the 13 seats of the Scheduled Caste community so as to ensure their equal and simultaneous development. Besides, the Association sought action on its memorandums submitted to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the last four years through Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and the Planning Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra. |
