| NRHM managers resent pay disparity | | Slam authorities for 'discrimination' | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 10: Scores of members of the Programme Management Unit staff working under centrally sponsored National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) programme today slammed the authorities for failing to sanction increment in their salaries at par with medicos and paramedics. The managers also slammed the higher authorities of the state health society and the health department for allegedly adopting step-motherly attitude towards them. A group of management staff working at block and district levels today assembled at the Iqbal Park here and staged a peaceful protest against the proposed hike in salaries 'wherein they have once again been discriminated against'. "The blue eyed doctors and paramedics, for whom the authorities have a soft corner, are being regularly provided hikes. Since the inception of the programme they have got about 300 per cent hikes while we have been given a meager hike of 30%. Despite being post graduates in management, computers and commerce, we are being paid much less than what class IV sweepers in the department get. This is sheer injustice", the managers said in once voice. "The authorities have been insensitive right since the inception and are maltreating us even though several innovations in the department are being introduced through us. They are playing with our careers and lives. We have been kept preoccupied with administrative work due to which we could not plead our case or lodge protests etc, but now we are left with no option but to resort to such means", said one of the managers leading the protest. The managers appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Minister for Health Taj Mohiudddin to take up their demands with the respective authorities for their early redressal. "We also urge state government to devise a regularization policy for manpower engaged under the central flagship programme", they said. |
