6/10/2014 11:06:44 PM
Rajouri, June 10: After Sub District Hospital (SDH) Nowshera which hit the media limelight for denying the medical treatment to a rape victim, now the District Hospital (DH) Rajouri is in news for alleged harassment and refusal of treatment to a cancer patient by the doctors at District Hospital Rajouri.
Sources said that Sabja Begam wife of Abdul Rashid resident of Dhanidhar an outskirt locality of Rajouri city was admitted in the hospital at about 11 pm on Sunday. Agitating family members alleged that no doctor attended the ailing lady and on Monday morning when they called a surgeon serving at the hospital also denied treatment briefly saying that she (patient) requires life supporting treatment at this stage of her ailment. "The mental agony and unsupportive behavior meted out to a cancer patient at District Hospital Rajouri left them irritated, some of family members said adding that, " it led a verbal dispute between the doctor and family members which later took ugly turn i.e. attendants turning violent and ransacking hospital property like breaking of glasses of Emergency Ward. Pertinent to mention that a Magisterial probe has been ordered on June,3 against some doctors for their refusal of medical aid to a minor rape victim who was brought to district hospital on June,1.
In this connection Dr Suresh Kapahi , consultant gynecologist has been attached by the Director Health Services in his office at Jammu pending the outcome of the probe.
Meanwhile Dr Rakesh Officiating Medical superintendent of district hospital while refuting the allegations said that victim was sent back to home by the Jammu doctors following refusal for operation of the patient by the family members.
"Instead taking her to home, as she is passing through last stage of the cancer, they brought her to district hospital and the surgeon also suggested them for supporting treatment which irritated the family members that lead to the dispute, he added.
