Cop kills 2 sisters including SPO at Kalakote, Commits suicide

Rajouri, July 28: A police constable who was reportedly under a fit of rage, after his proposal for marriage was rejected by younger sister of woman SPO in the police department, killed two sisters including SPO Urmila Kumari and later committed suicide at his room at Kalakot town today.
Police sources said that Constable Sanjay Kumar resident of Bisnoba in Noushera was posted at Kalakot police station. He was in contact with Urmila and frequently visited her official quarter in Thermal Plant colony in the vicinity of the police station.
Sanjay had also good terms with Chaman Lal , SPO husband of Urmila posted at Rajouri district police lines (DPL). Nishu Kumari younger sister of Urmila resident of Broh (Kalakot) was studying in 1st year and was also staying with her sister.
Sources said that Sanjay wanted to marry Nishu and the proposal was already with Urmila and her husband. The proposal was recently rejected by both the sisters as the activities of Sanjay were not accepted by the sisters.
"This could be the reason behind this gruesome act committed by the constable. The investigation is in progress and the truth will be brought to light only after the investigation report." said SSP Mubassar Latiffee.
He added that a Special Investigation team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the incident and it will be headed by Rakesh Kumar ASP, Nowshera.
When contacted by the Early Times, ASP, Rakesh Kumar said that Sanjay was on leave and had joined the duties only on Sunday.
"At about midnight after crossing the rare wall of the police station Sanjay entered the house of Chaman, SPO and first killed his wife Urmila in the kitchen and then killed Nishu in another room. He also committed suicide with his official weapon AK rifle which was seized by the police along with other evidences" said ASP.
Sources added that Sanjay was the frequent visitor to the house of Chaman Lal ,SPO in Thermal Planto colony. According to some reports Sanjay had some illicit relations with the deceased SPO and that could also be the reason behind this extreme step taken by the deceased constable.
Rakesh Kumar,ASP said that police have also received both the versions and during investigations all the angles will be taken into consideration before preparing the final report.
After legal formalities and autopsies the bodies were handed over to respective families for the last rites of the deceased. Police has started investigation under sections 302 RPC and 4/27 IAA. Meanwhile the family members of both the sisters along with other people today staged protest against the police working at Kalakot and said that the matter was in the notice of senior police officers but they failed to act in time and three precious lives were lost. Thakur Rashpal Singh, MLA Kalakot and Mubassar Latifee, SSP said that the kin of the deceased will fully be compensated including recommendation of permanent job in police department in favor of Chaman Lal, SPO.
