Jammu, Aug 20: Vehicular movement remain paralyzed for half an hour on National Highway at Bari Brahmana when hundreds of people in order to lodge their protest against police blocked National Highway by putting burning tyres on road here on Wednesday. Protestors were alleging police inaction in solving the assault case of one Karnail Singh.
A large number of family members and locals took to roads and stage protest against alleged inaction of police and alleged that police is shielding the accused who is stated to be the right hand of a politician. Protestors also alleged that a group of five persons stabbed one Karnail Singh on August 17 and police even the passage of two days have utterly failed to arrest any of the accused. The agitated protestors created blockades and also burnt the tyres to disrupt the traffic on National Highway which affected the usual traffic bringing it to halt.
Meantime senior police officers led by SSP Samba Anil Magotra rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors while assuring them that the absconding accused would be booked within five days. It was assurance from the SSP Samba and other administrative officials the protestors lifted their protest.
Meanwhile when contacted a senior police officer told that police have lodged FIR in this connection under different sections including 307 RPC and arms act and accordingly secured the arrest of four accused namely Majeed, Vinod, Vikrant and Mohit all residents of the Bari Brahmna. He said that hunt to arrest one Rafiq is in progress.
However, the unconfirmed reports reaching here said that the protest was political motivated as earlier, the victim's family went to the politician of the area to seek his cooperation but later they realized that the absconding accused was close confident person of the politician. They, later, approached to other political parties following which protest took place.
