Corporal punishment case: 11th class student beaten by teacher referred to GMC&H

Rajouri, Sept 18: in another case of corporal punishment a student of 11th class was severally beaten up by an ad-hoc lecturer at Government Higher Secondary School, Chingus and later was referred to Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu.
According to police sources the incident took place on Wednesday when irate of over absence of student the lecturer thrashed him in the presence of students and staff members.
Sources said one Gurdeep Singh s/o Hazara Singh of village Narian has lost his sister in Nowshera bus mishap and reportedly was staying at her sister's house and thus failed to attend his classes since September 4 i.e. the day of bus mishap.
"On Wednesday when he returned to his class he was thrashed by the lecturer without asking for reason of his absence, sources said further adding, " Gurdeep was severely thrashed by the lecturer Rahil Parvez resulting critical injuries especially in his eye.
The helpless student was rescued by his fellow students and other staff members and later was shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Nowshera from where he was referred to Eye Unit of GMC Hospital at Jammu. Meantime the matter was brought in the notice of CEO, who directed Ashok Kumar principal to take the student to nearby health center and also appoint a teacher to look after the student. Meanwhile family members also reached Nowshera and they staged protest against the lecturer and administration and education department.
Deepati Uppal, SDM reached the hospital pacified the family members assuring a strict action against the accused lecturer. Chief Education Officer (CEO) Rajouri, Ch Lal Hussain while taking to Early Times said the corporal punishment in the school is punishable offence and if the lecturer is found guilty he will be disengaged and will also be recommended for legal action. "A detailed report has been sought from the concerned principal and after going through the report necessary action will be taken soon against the lecturer" said CEO.
