Jammu, Sept 22 : Association for Welfare of Senior Citizens (AWSC) today conducted its annual meets and unanimously elected SK Gupta as president, Verinder Gupta and BM Kohli were elected as Vice Presidents and R C Gupta elected as General Secretary and Chander Parkash Sharma and Abrol as Joint Secretaries and Mengi as Treasurer. During discussion, AWSC members has highlighted the problems being faced by the elderly people all over the state and state government turning a blind eye to even adopting national policy on older people (NPOP) of 1999. and 'Maintenance of Parents/Elders Act 2007 as has been done by almost all the states of the country.
The government has, however, approved the allotment of 8-canals of land to AWSC to build a multipurpose residential cum day-care centre of the senior citizens yet the land has so far not been finally handed over to AWSC by the Directorate of Social Welfare Department. |
