| Seek liberal funding from New Delhi without assessment | | JK Govt fails people yet again | | ET Report Srinagar, Sept 22: The Centre has expressed its displeasure over the failure of the State Government to assess the exact damages to the state infrastructure due to floods. It's because of this callous attitude of the state Government, that the Centre has not been able to finalize the exact details of funds to be provided. The issue had according to source, cropped up in the meeting of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who had asked for liberal funding from the Centre. "Omar insisted on liberal funding. But when the Union Minister asked for details, the CM gave sketch and conflicting figures, which put off the Union Minister," said a senior Government official. The initial report of the State Government, according to the sources is in conflict with the internal assessment of the Centre. "The Central Government report is much accurate than the State Government and this was also pointed to the CM," said the source. The Central Government report was prepared on the important feedback provided by the Home Secretary Anil Goswami who camped in the State for a week and personally visited every corner of the State. The Centre is keen to extend the funds and other necessary help but is strict and cautious that figures have to be correct and it goes to the needy people and infrastcture is build at the earliest with correct financial cost and doesn't want it to be escalated. "Omar is dealing with new set of Government and is not used to it which is making him uncomfortable. Earlier, he had his way when the State was hit by natural calamity. The then UPA Government provided financial help at the calls and figures of the CM but now he is not going to have it that way. Earlier, his casual approach was shielded by the Congress vice-president. But now the Centre is not taking this approach casually with PM having personally visited the state and also keeping an eye on the relief work," said an official. |
