10/22/2014 12:07:02 AM
ET Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 21: The Prime Minister will take first hand account of ground report on progress in relief distribution to the flood affected people of the State.
PM Narendra Modi will also review the real financial assistance provided to the people. He will also note the division of financial package for both Jammu and Kashmir regions as sought by the state government.
The PM in a significant gesture of celebrating Diwali with the flood affected people of the Kashmir will not limit to just political gesturing and photo-opportunity. He will like to do real work of analyzing the ground report.
"PM Modi is keen to make a mark on State. He just doesn't want to be any other PM and for that he is ensuring that there is no difference between deeds and actions," said a senior official.
The Central government has still not given assent to the package submitted by the State government. There is demand in the State that people whose business has suffered should also be compensated. It is more so in the Srinagar city which has received maximum damages in the floods.
"Meeting or even giving patient hearing to this demand could be very important for the political prospects of the BJP in the Kashmir region. And Modi, will not like to go this visit go waste on account of this," said the official.
The visit of the Modi is also aimed at sending the message that he is sensitive to the sensibilities of the Muslims of the country and by being around with them on the most auspicious festival of the Diwali, he is also trying to do for image change over.
"This strategic game plan may take away any left over anti-Modi rhetoric space from separatists or his political opponents. He has already reduced the separatists to just a fringe elements and now with this visits he will showcase himself as the only person with whom any talks can be held as he is sensitive to them also," said the official.
