SRINAGAR, Oct 31 : The tall claims of the government that to rehabilitate the flood sufferers before the onset of winter has proved to be mere eyewash. The flood victims continue to suffer for want of the basic facilities in the make shift shelters. The flood victims seem to be helpless since there is no provision of the facilities like clean drinking water, wash room and most importantly the protection from the bitter cold, which has arrived in the valley almost one month earlier, much to worry of these flood victims. It is pertinent to mention here that the district Srinagar administration had said that something around three thousand flood affected persons will be accommodated temporarily in schools, tents and community halls and they will be looked after in the best possible way.
"The steps taken by the district administration are inadequate and improper even for the hot season. The winter demands more sincere efforts on part of the government otherwise the bitter cold is for sure to consume our lives," said Imtiyaz Ahmad, who is living the difficult moments of his life in a Higher Secondary School in Srinagar. The ministers and the bureaucrats have no concerns for us as they have packed their belongings and are in a hurry to reach Jammu to enjoy the tension free life since the move offices will be functional in the summer capital of the state from the 10th November. Another youth Rizwan while talking to Early Times said, "Whenever misfortunes come to people in any part of our country, the people in power there give up everything and try their level best to come true to the expectations of the people.
But in our own state, as Rizwan said, how unconcerned the people in power are, draws no parallel in India, not to talk about the foreign countries. Flood has washed every belonging of the people, every bit of their property and the government thinks that the check for Rs. 3800 is going to compensate the people, Rizwan went on saying.
Like Rizwan, many such flood affected people say that the government thinks that by providing 50 Kgs of rice and a blanket is going to help the people in distress to overcome the difficult situation which the flood has posed to them.
As per these people the Omar lead government has put the flood affected people in the makeshift shelters. These people ask that is it enough, don't they have to look after the problems which they are confronting in these temporary shelters and they say that they are being treated like the cattle in these shelters.
