Jammu, Jan10 : The plenary session of the three days' national seminar on "Sustainable Rural Livelihood: Technological and Institutional Perspective" organized by the Division of Agricultural Extension Education, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) & the Society for Community Mobilization for Sustainable Rural Development, New Delhi was held at SKUAST-Jammu main campus Chatha. According to press release, Dr. A. K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Agriculture Extension), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi was the Chief Guest at the plenary session, and the function was presided over by Dr. Pradeep K. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu. Dr. Singh, the chief guest, in his address laid emphasis for generating real-time data for formulating progra-mmes to overcome real-time problems in agriculture. Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu thanked the delegates, who came from all over India, for participating in technical discussions to formulate future roadmap for agriculture research and extension. Dr. P.L. Gautam, Vice President National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) was the guest of honour at the plenary session. Dr. J.P. Sharma, President Mobilization presented the recommendations of the technical sessions that emphasized on sustaining agriculture productivity to ensure rural livelihood and food sovereignty of the country besides economic viability of small scale family farming. On this occasion life time achievement award was given to Dr. B. S. Hansra, Professor Emeritus, Amity International University and former Assistant Director General ICAR and founder Director School of Agriculture, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi for his contribution to teaching, research, extension, and policy planning at the national level. The best community mobilization awards were presented to Dr. Rakesh Nanda, Professor and Head, Division of Agricultural Extension Education SKUAST-Jammu, Dr. Rajinder Peshin, Associate Professor, Division of Agricultural Extension Education SKUAST-Jammu and Dr. Narayan Kumbhare, Scientist Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi for their contribution in the field of research and outreach programmes. Dr. K.S. Risam, Director Extension SKUAST of Jammu welcomed the dignitaries and delegates present at the plenary session. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Rakesh Nanda, Organizing Secretary of the VII National Seminar. The plenary session was conducted by Fatima Bano and G.S.Mahra.
