2 Panthers Party leaders may join PDP | | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 10: The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), which has already suffered humiliating defeat in recently concluded assembly elections, is likely to suffer another jolt, as two of its top leaders are contemplating to join Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in near future. Sources informed Early Times that Panthers Party stands divided after the defeat in recently concluded assembly elections. "Before assembly polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was in discussion with JKNPP, to fight elections collectively," sources said, adding that BJP had offered five seats to Panthers Party candidates, but some leaders of the Party had sought mandate from at least 10 assembly seats for their candidates. "The Panthers Party got divided as two leaders were in favour of BJP's decision and were ready to enter into an agreement over five assembly seats," sources said, adding that other two leaders had divergent views, following which the deal did not materialize. Sources said as the incumbent Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of Panthers failed to retain their seats it led to cracks becoming more wide and open. They said two former MLAs of the party, who were earlier also very close to the PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed are holding discussion with him and are likely to join the party in near future. Senior PDP leader and former MLC, Ved Mahajan said that discussion was on with some Panthers Party leaders. "Discussion is on but so far no one has joined the party." Chairman of JKNPP, Harshdev Singh said that there was no such report adding, if there would be any such development, media would be informed. Moreover, when enquired from MLA Yashpal Kundal, he initially said: "All these reports are baseless." Asked, has got any plans of joining the PDP in near future, he said. "Everything is possible and nothing is impossible in politics". Some insiders informed that before Assembly elections, two Panthers party leaders were in favour of joining BJP but after the BJP candidates won from their areas, the possibilities of them joining the BJP have vanished and they are exploring PDP as a suitable option. |
