20 years RI, Rs 2 lakh fine to narco smuggler | | | Jammu, Jan 10: Principal Sessions Judge Kathua Vinod Chatterji Koul today awarded two years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 2 lakh to Md. Maqbul Lone S/O Abdul Jabbar Lone R/O 194, Sherwani Pora, Partly PO Mahora, P.S. Brijhama, District Baramulla, J&K who was facing trial in charas smuggling case. Accused has been prosecuted for offences punishable U/Ss 8/20/60 NDPS Act, on the basis of a complaint made by Intelligence Officer, Narcotics Control Bureau, Jammu Zonal Unit Jammu, Muthi Camp, Jammu. As per the complaint, the allegations against the accused are that a secret information was received from source that Drug Trafficking from Kashmir Valley to Delhi in truck No. JK05-6906 on 13.03.2012 is going on and the supply of drug may be in Transport Nagar, Delhi. The aforesaid information was given in writing to the Superintendent NCB, Jammu, by Maneet Kumar, IO. Consequent upon receiving the said information, Mehak Jain, Superintendent NCB, Jammu, constituted a team under his supervision and naka was laid on 13.03.2013 at night along with police on Lakhanpur road, opposite to Police Station, Lakhanpur, as per the direction of Superintendent for checking and intercepting truck No Jk05-6906 coming from Jammu towards Lakhanpur. After search they found 14.930 kilograms from the possession of the accused and after completion of investigation challan was present in the court. Principal Sessions Judge Kathua Vinod Chatterji Koul after hearing Special Public Prosecutor DN Pangotra for the NCB whereas Advocate TN Gupta for the accused person observed that Narcotics, drugs and crime undermine development by eroding social and human capital. This degrades quality of life. With these observations Court awarded 20 years RI and fine Rs 2 Lac to Md. Maqbul Lone. (JNF) |
