7-day long Holi Fest begins at Rajouri | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Feb 27 : Seven days long traditional Holi festival celebrations begins at Rajouri here today. The Bhairon Devta procession was taken out by the Bharion committee in the evening today. As per routine, the Bharion Devata procession will be taken out on every alternative day from today till the Holi festival scheduled for March 5. As part of this festival, the man who plays the role of Bhairon paints his body black and wears a turban like thing tied with yellow ribbon on his head with a ponytail attached. This pony tail called 'paranda'in local language and he puts on just a underwear and sports shoes also painted black. The man playing Bhairon paint himself black at Kali Mata Mandir, near Santan Dharam Sabha and comes out after paying obeisance and demanding forgiveness for any mistake during 3-4 hours round of Rajouri city. The Bhairon procession is followed by drum beaters and hundreds of youth from all the communities. When youth followed Bhairon he chase them and beat them with 'chimta' (tongs) and whom he managed to catch does not allow the persons unless he puts some money in his mouth. Inhabitants belonging to both the communities feel it is lucky to be caught by the Bhairon' and if the person does not have money he allow him to go without hitting. |
