Govt to consider 4 lane road for South Kashmir districts
Ongoing Survey will be followed by tendering soon: Chief Engineer

Jammu, May 12: The state government is focusing to make historic Mughal Road all Weather road by constructing a Tunnel on it.
The government has also decided to connect four districts of Kashmir through one four lane road to avoid heavy rush of Mughal road posing a threat to residents of Pulwama and Shopian.
In a major development, the state government is proposing to construct one four lane road which will connect Srinagar, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam on one track to avoid increasing rush on Mughal road and make accessibility to traveling on Mughal road easy for people coming central and North Kashmir Districts of Kashmir.
Talking to Early Times, Chief Engineer Roads and Buildings, Satish Razdan said that 'Proposal was coined few days back by state government to avoid Heavy rush of Vehicles Plying on Mughal Road these via Pulwama and Shopian Districts these days and initially we have started a Survey and are about to go for consultant tendering first.'
"It can take time keeping in view its length and breadth connecting Nowgam, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam on one road, it is proposal and we will start our operations soon in this regard, we have actually started working on the project at some level, however process has not formally started as yet," added Razdan Pertinently Mughal road was thrown open for public few days ago and most of the passenger vehicles coming from central and North Kashmir prefer to reach Jammu via Mughal road instead of plying through Srinagar-Jammu National Highway which is accident prone.
The demand for constructing the four lane road from Nowgam to Shopian via Pulwama took momentum over the years after Mughal road which by-passes two main towns of Pulwama and Shopian Districts and posses threat to pedestrians walking on age old road and Residents living next to the main road connecting Pulwama and Shopian up to Galander-Pampore of Pulwama District.
According to one official of R&B Divison, government is planning to construct four lane road from Nowgam to Shopian on priority basis and the completely stop Vehicular moment on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for some months next year to complete repairing of road at many places in concrete manner which create problems during winters and also complete construction of four lane road from Jammu to Srinagar.
Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Syed during the recently concluded assembly session in the House said that 'he is desirous to make historical Mughal road an all weather road by constructing tunnel on the road.'
