Something dangerous cooking up in New Delhi: Leela Karan
Another bandh against BJP in Jammu

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 23: The Coordination Committee constituted by the Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar association (JKHCBA), Jammu, Saturday met in the Bar Chamber for more than three hours to chalk out future course of action to put pressure on the BJP so that it announced establishment of AIIMS in Jammu and completion of the ongoing artificial lake project in Jammu at the earliest. The members of the Coordination Committee resolved to organize bandh across Jammu region on May 27, the day Home Minister Rajnath Singh reaches Jammu to address a rally and highlight achievements of the Narendra Modi Government. Modi completes one year in office on May 25. The Coordination Committee also resolved to give 10-day ultimatum to the Modi Government and hold out a threat that the Union Government and the BJP would face serious consequences in case they failed to announce AIIMS for Jammu within the stipulated period. But more than that, the Coordination Committee resolved to send show causes notices to the law-makers and ministers from Jammu province, especially from the BJP, to explain "if they are with Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed or with the with people of Jammu region".
During the meeting, which was very largely attended, about 20 members expressed their views and gave suggestions, which, they believed, could make the movement a great success.
All the speakers, without any exception, attacked the BJP ministers and lawmakers from left and right and asserted that "they have let down Jammu for enjoying loaves and fishes of office". Their attack on Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh was all the more sharp.
"Nirmal Singh is Deputy Chief Minister of the PDP. He has nothing to do with Jammu. He has sold his conscience. He was so shameless that he didn't utter a word when an anti-Jammu announcement was made in his presence," many speakers said, adding that "he has been defeating the Jammu cause in a highly shameful and brazen manner". "We didn't elect our representatives; we committed a blunder and elected Jaichands. We are paying through our nose by electing cheaters, rank opportunists and Jaichands. They have cheated us. They have brought bad name to Jammu. We must create a situation so that they do not venture out of their houses. They must be excommunicated. They must be boycotted. They should be greeted with garlands of shoes. Their faces should be blackened beyond recognition. Their houses must be gheraoed," many speakers said.
However, it was VHP president Leela Karan Sharma, who not only endorsed all the three resolves of the Coordination Committee and offered fullest possible support to it, but also made some very serious and startling revelations. "Something serious is cooking up in Delhi. Something dangerous is happening under the carpet. I share the view that the present dispensation in Delhi could compromise the Indian stand on Jammu & Kashmir. The present dispensation, it appears, is planning to negotiate the state's political future. We have to be very alert. We have to be very watchful. Situation is alarming," he, inter-alia, said, and added that "notwithstanding the fact that he heads the VHP, he would support the movement to the hilt". "For me the nation, national interest in Jammu & Kashmir and the Jammu cause is sacrosanct. I stand committed to the nation and the Jammu cause. The VHP and Bajrang Dal had supported the April 24 bandh. We will support the May 27 bandh also. Even if they (RSS) oppose me, I will not deviate from the path to be charted by the Coordination Committee," he also declared.
That Leela Karan Sharma cautioned the members of the Coordination Committee about the possibility of give and take on Jammu & Kashmir was the most significant aspect of the whole meeting in the sense that Sharma is not an ordinary man. He is an insider. He knows more than many others know. His was a timely warning.
The short point is that the BJP, BJP Ministers, BJP lawmakers and the BJP-led UPA Government at the Centre have fallen from the grace. They have become objects of contempt. A speaker did not make an overstatement when he said in the meeting that "if elections are held today in Jammu, BJP will not win a single seat from this region". No one had ever expected that the BJP would become so unpopular in Jammu province so soon. It is difficult to say that the BJP would appreciate the Jammu sentiment.
