Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 31: Separatists in Kashmir are making every possible effort to somehow create trouble in the Valley the Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani has been assigned the job of roping in "like minded separatists" to fuel unrest in Kashmir.
Sources told Early Times in connection with intensifying the anti-India activities, Geelani invited almost all the senior separatists, and many others to his Hyderpora residence in uptown here to discuss the future course of action. An analyst said that Geelani despite being under house detention is carrying on with his activities without any fear. "It seems separatists are desperate to make their presence felt and are waiting for a chance to do so. Government should wake up before it becomes too late and separatists succeed in orchestrating street protests across Kashmir."
Sources said that Geelani is trying to rope in all the "like minded" separatists on the instructions of Pakistan as he has been "assured full support" from the other side. Geelani has succeeded in engineering a split in the moderate Hurriyat camp as more than 10 constituents of Hurriyat (M) joined Geelani last month.
Sources said, people sitting across the LoC have changed their modus of operandi and have started backing hardliner Geelani as they have realized the BJP led NDA government is not ready to hold any dialogue with Pakistan over Kashmir. "Geelani has been assigned the task to get all the hardliners under one roof and then go for a stir," they added.
In an interesting development, the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP chairman, Shabir Ahmed Shah, who staged a pro-Pakistan rally in south Kashmir's Anantnag town last week and was booked by Police, also attended Geelani's meeting, while another Hurriyat leader from Mirwaiz's camp, Aga Hassan, who is also the executive member of the moderate Hurriyat faction was also present in the today's meeting convened by Geelani.
Sources said that Pakistan has conveyed it to separatists that they should join Geelani as they are planning to shift the power centre from Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to Geelani.
An official said that they are monitoring the activities of Geelani and if they feel that he (Geelani) is posing threat to peace they would act accordingly.
Asked about the spurt in violence and increase in the frequency of anti-India rallies being staged in Kashmir he said, "All this is being managed by Pakistan as it has lost the proxy war in JK and has also faced humiliation on diplomatic front."
The official claimed that militants and separatists have become "weak" and their desperate attempts would "fizzle out" in coming days. "Geelani is trying to create hype in order to prove to his opponents (Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik) that he is stronger than them and Pakistan has owned him," the official added.
"We don't mind Geelani holding closed door meetings as we know that nothing is going to come out of these. Separatists have lost footing in Kashmir and people don't pay any heed to their calls anymore," the official said.
