| AUSTERITY MEASURES! | | | A recent order from the Finance as well as from Education Department carried a strict stricture for the officers in both departments bringing political pressure for getting postings of their choice, and warned that such an act would be reflected in their Annual Performance Reports (APRs) and they would be put in the list of 'deadwood' officials. Financial Commissioner (Revenue) Arun Kumar issued a circular (No. FC (A) 17-II/Trnsf/2015) observing with regret that subordinate Revenue officers were regularly bringing political pressure for getting postings of their choice and quoted rule 17 of Jammu and Kashmir Government Employees (Conduct) Rules 1971. He had said the rule states that "no government employee shall bring or attempt to bring any political or other outside influence to bear upon any superior authority to further his interest in respect of matter pertaining to his service under the government". It is thus a matter of great surprise that while austerity measures get in place for the Revenue as well as Education department against the corrupt and influential, same if implemented in police department too may help in regulating the fishy affairs of the department, throwing out the political influence. "The whisper clamor in the department is that sooner the same rule may get applied for police department also. This would go a long way in sanitizing the mess that rules in the department over top police and political nexus," said a police official wishing not to be named. |
