Regularization of casual, need based workers | Employees to hit streets from Monday | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 8: The failure of the government to regularize 3660 casual and need base employees of different departments has forced the employees to tread agitational path. The incumbent Finance Minister, Dr Haseeb Drabu according to casual and need base employees announced regularization of 3660 employees during the budget session of the legislature early this year. However, terming government announcement a mere eyewash to befool all such poor employees, President Employees Joint action committee (EJAC), Abdul Qayoom Wani today said that they have no option except to come on roads once again against government silence on this long pending issue. "On the floor of House Finance Minister announced regularization of 3660 employees who are working on peanut salary since 1992 and 1994, matter got the cabinet nod also, he also promised to frame a policy for regularization of all other need base and casual employees but we don't know what stops government to fulfil its promises they made with us every time," said Wani. Qayoom said the employees were forced to tread the agitational path. Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani, one need based employee working in Public Health Engineering department (PHE) since 1992 while talking to Early Times said the hope of regularization some day had made him work on a monthly remuneration of Rs 1500 for so many years. He said that like a permanent employee of his department who is paid Rs 15,000 to Rs 20000 per month he always has to remain on duty seven days a week but despite tall claims of successive governments he and all others like him are suffering in one way or the other. Pertinently on the issue of regularization of casual and need based employees of PHE department, former Minister for Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma, had to tender his resignation during previous coalition government after he alleged that some senior National Conference leaders were hell bent to include some fair faces in the already decided list of people supposed to be regularized. When contacted Minister of State (MoS) for Irrigation and Flood Control, Abdul Majeed Padder said that 'there is no time bound policy with the government to regularize these 3660 need based and casual employees of different departments but his government is committed to regularize these people on priority any time in future.' |
