Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 21: With the PDP-BJP Government failing to dismiss or blacklist hundreds of doctors who are not present at their place of postings form last so many years, the Government which is headed by Governor N.N Vohra said that it is preparing the list of absent doctors for their termination. "Doctors who have been absent from last many years will be terminated. I have asked the authorities to finalize the list and accordingly their services will be terminated," Commissioner/Secretary Health and Medical Education Department, Mandeep Bandari told Early Times. He said that though many doctors have returned, action needs to be taken against the absent doctors. "The problem has become acute and stern action needs to be taken. I have asked the concerned officials to issue final notice to these doctors," he said. He said that people are complaining about the shortage of doctors in Primary Health Centers (PHCs). "Since the State Government had appointed these doctors they should have served their own people but they preferred the private hospitals outside the State," he said and added that a final notice would be served on them before dismissing them from job. Sources in the Health department said that once a clear picture emerges on the absent doctors, the Government will be able to carry out fresh recruitment against the vacant posts. "Even with fresh recruitment, we will be able to get around doctors. It will help us tide over the problem of shortage of doctors in the hill districts," said a senior official in Health Department. It is to mention here that despite the claims by PDP-BJP Government it failed to dismiss or blacklist hundreds of doctors who are not present at their place of postings from last so many years. Health Minister on record has said that the Government will dismiss the doctors who won't report to their duties. "The absent doctors will not only be dismissed from services but will also be blacklisted, rendering them ineligible for any job within the State and other country," Health Minister had said. Sources said that scores of doctors had left for higher studies without permission of the authorities while as hundreds of other doctors continue to remain absent from their duties and serve in private hospitals in the Gulf, Europe and the United States and United Kingdom and are holding on to their posts in Kashmir. As per the rules, the doctors are duty bound to serve in the State. |
