 KISHTWAR, Feb3:- Separatist leader turn Social activist Abdul Hay Khateeb from Bhaderwah Tehsil of  District Doda, a desperate father who wanted  his son back from Pakistan  passed away today. He was  89.
 Khateeb's Son Mohammad Hussain joined Hizbul Mujahden  in 1989 and crossed over to Pakistani Occupied Kashmir at the instance of Hardliner Separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The deceased was later buried at his ancestral graveyard in Bhaderwah. Thousands of persons attended his funeral. Khateeb during his life time is the only separatist leader who raised voice against Syed Ali Shah Geelani and accused him.   Khateeb who time and again demanded that his son should be brought back today closed his eyes after waiting for the return of his son for 25 long years.
 Khateeb who also remained the head of Anjuman Islamia Bhaderwah was denied passport by the government of India for performing the Hajj  for his son's involvement in militancy.
 Abdul Hay Khateeb commonly known as "Hay Chacha" remained a renowned figure in Bhaderwah Tehsil of Doda District. He joined the plebiscite movement led by late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and also remained in Bhaderwah jail for so many years along with Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
 After Indra-Sheikh accord, Abdul Hay Khateeb was released from jail and after the formation of Muslim United Front, Abdul Hay Khateeb joined the front and after alleged rigging of 1987 elections, he was again lodged in jail along other youths of the state and after that he continuously supported the ongoing freedom struggle and supports various separatists groups from time to time before he was dogged by the them.
 In an interview to "Early Times" on 30th May 2011, the deceased separatist leader told that Geelani not only sent his son across the border for arms training , but also several other youths were lured by  him to resort to arms.
 Khateeb said that he sold one Kanal land near HMT Srinagar, as his son was in desperate need of money in Pakistan, which he transferred to him through Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
 "I sold my land near HMT Srinager cheaply  since I was desperate  for money at that time. And I gave Rs1 lac to Geelani and he (Geelani) passed it on to my son in Pakistan," he told Early Times.
 He told that despite less value of Pakistani currency, Syed Ali Shah Geelani gave just one lakh Pak currency to my son in Pakistan instead of Rs. 1.40 lacs which  was the actual value of the Indian currency in Pakistan at that time.
 "I have met Geelani so many times and  sought financial help for my son pledged him to provide financial help to my son," he said. Dejected Abdul Hay Khateeb added that  despite pledging, Geelani did nothing. He  further said that he suffered at the hands of successive state governments.  He dejectedly said if family members of Jehad Council Chief Syed Salha-ud-Din  can go for Hajj.  Hajj pilgrimage, why he is being stopped and questioned. In a question whether his son is ready to come back, he said "yes" in a loud voice.  "He (Mohammad Hussain Khateeb) has three children and a wife at home in Bhaderwah, beside me,"  he said.
