							  | | Modi Government mulls dialogue with separatists | | | | | | ET Report jammu, July 19: BJP led union Government is likely to hold talks with the separatists-indication in this regard is likely to be made in the forthcoming visit of the Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is likely to visit Srinagar next week.
"Modi government may make an announcement for holding talks with the separatists. CM Mehbooba Mufti and some other people are pushing the Modi government in this regard. However, it's not still clear at which level the talks are likely to be held," sources disclosed.
Sources said that turn-around in the thinking of BJP government has come after the death of about 40 people in the valley. The BJP government is of the view that things should not escalate much more.
"The BJP doesn't want any further escalation of the situation and doesn't want any more killing as it could go against it in the forthcoming UP elections and also affect the image of the PM Modi, which he had cultivated in the last two-years. The Central government in consultation with the state government is working out the modalities for it," said the sources.
The Home Minister had earlier ruled out any talks with the separatists. He had also made it clear that if they (separatists) are to hold talks they can do it with the elected government of the state.
"It's still not clear what will be level of the talks. It can start at the level of the National Security Advisor, who incidentally is also the point man of the PM. It can give some credibility to the talks but also save Modi from the political back-lash," said the sources.
The Modi government is under intense pressure from the Mehbooba Mufti to start even if a semblance of talks with the separatists to give some leeway to the government to get some saying in the turbulent times.
