Jammu, July 31: Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust today conducted a meeting of Kashmiri Pandit organization heads and their executive members, community thinkers and social and political activists.
The meeting was called to discuss the protection of temples and shrines of the valley in the prevailing situations.
The meeting was presided over by Dr. K L Chaudhry, eminent doctor, writer and thinker. While opening the session, Shiban Khaibri and Dr R L Bhat, presented key note on the working of the Trust, since its inception, to carry forward the assigned job by the community to garner support to get "The Jammu and Kashmir Shrines and Religious places of Hindus of Kashmir (Management and Regulation) Bill" reintroduced in the State Legislature for the protection of the temples and shrines in the valley.
The house was informed that there are 975 temples and shrines and 428 cremation grounds at 647 locations of the valley. Further this was informed, as on date, 347 are desecrated or destroyed.
The house was apprised that since the bill in question was sent to standing committee of last legislature, which now stands lapsed, the Trust held 400 meetings with the community members, political leaders and opinion makers of the state.
All those who spoke, reiterated their support to the trust to carry forward the work, with their full support, to the stage of conclusion, that is to get statutory protection of Valley's shrines and temples of Hindus.
Others in the presidium were Swami Kumar Ji and Dr. Arjan Nath Pandita, President, PNBMT. The prominent amongst others who took part in the deliberations were Ravinder Raina, President, All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC), Prof A N Sadhu, former President, KP Sabha, Jammu, H N Jattu, President, All India Kashmiri Pandit Conference, Ashwani Chrungoo, President, Panun Kashmir (PK), P L Koul Budgami, Convener, Kashmiri Hindu Conference (KHC), B L Jalali and C L Sadhu. |
