Police launch crackdown on DeM, arrest Aasiyeh Andrabi | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 4: Police today launched a crackdown on the separatist leaders and arrested Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) Syedah Aasiyeh Andrabi along with her five associates from the different areas of Kashmir valley. Reports said that police carried out a raid in the Kralkhud locality near Habba Kadal and arrested Aasiyeh from a house. Her close associate namely Fehmeeda Sofi was also put into custody by the police on this occasion. The DeM Chairperson is wanted by the police in many cases of 'sedition' and she had given slip to police and security forces ever since unrest broke out in Kashmir valley. In a separate action the police arrested four DeM activists from the Saloora locality in Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. These arrests were made by the police while an all women rally was carried out by DeM in the area. Police lobbed smoke shells on the DeM activists who tried to take out a rally from the Saloora area. Reports said that many activists of DeM assembled at the main chowk in Saloora and tried to take out a rally. The police foiled the plan of DeM activists and resorted to smoke shelling on the participants of the rally. The police action led to the dispersal of the DeM activists and as such they could not take out the rally. It would be in place to mention here that police had been on look out for Aasiyeh and despite carrying out raids the law enforcing agencies were not able to arrest her. The DeM Chairperson had visited the Tral area on August 14 and carried out a rally in the Tral area in South Kashmir's Pulwama district. She had also hoisted flag in the area on this occasion. General Secretary DeM Nahida Nasreen in a statement said that scores of its activists and well-wishers today participated in pro-freedom programs across Kashmir. She said that four of its activists were arrested from Ganderbal after they had assembled in a local mosque to participate in the 'pro-freedom' rally. The DeM general secretary said that the arrest of their chairperson will not break their resolve to fight for the 'freedom' of Kashmir. She said that Aasiyeh was not keeping well for last three months and that her health was continuously deteriorating for she was forced to stay indoors. |
