Masked miscreants damage property in city centre, Pulwama | Action leads to fear among people | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 26: In typical examples of civil war in Kashmir during the ongoing unrest groups of masked youth caused damage to civilian property in separate incidents in Srinagar and Pulwama districts during the day. Eye-witnesses told Early Times that some masked youth appeared in the Hari Singh High street in the summer capital of state in the late afternoon and started smashing whatever came in their way. The masked youth went on a rampage and caused damages to the civilian property with the same leading to resentment among the people who were present in the area at the time of incident. "The masked youth seemed to be a spree of causing damage to the property belonging to the people present in the area. Whatever vehicle came in their way was smashed by these people. They also caused damages to the motorcycles and auto-rickshaws that were plying in the area," said eye-witnesses. Eye-witnesses said that the masked youth threw the articles of the roadside vendors on the road and caused huge financial losses to these poor people. The people who were present condemned the action of masked youth and referred to the same as high-handedness. The masked youth made veiled threats to the people and warned of dire consequences if the people carry on with their normal business. Interestingly, Hari Singh High Street and the adjacent areas in Srinagar witnessed good rush of people today despite the fact that there was no relaxation in the protest calendar as announced by the separatists. Private vehicles could be seen operating in these areas and some of the roadside vendors were also seen carrying on with their business. Eye-witnesses said that the action from masked youth led to panic in the area and people fled for safety. As soon as the police arrived at this place the masked youth managed to flee and as such they could not be arrested by the police personnel. Following the incident the movement of private vehicles was affected with roadside vendors also calling off the business. A police spokesman said that at Hari Singh High Street some miscreants pelted stones on some vehicles and also tried to ransack some vendors. The police immediately swung into action and chased the miscreants away. An FIR has been lodged in Police Station Shaheed Gunj in this regard. Reports said that earlier in the day a group of masked youth appeared in Pulwama outside the District Hospital and caused damages to the cars and motorcycles that were either parked there or were moving in the area. Here too, the masked youth carrying sticks with them vandalized the civilian property thereby causing fear among the people who were present there. The situation turned normal in the area once the police arrived on the scene. |
