Jammu, Oct 26: Panic griped in city of temples after a mysterious low intensity blast damaging nearly five vehicles, police today said that explosive was used in the blast while search was launched in nearby hotels and some suspect were also detained for questioning. A senior police official said that it was not a grenade blast but definitely a home-made crude bomb with explosives and minor splinters and the matter is being verified and team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) collected circumstantial evidences from the spot. Meanwhile, police launched search operation in nearby hotels and also detained some suspects for questioning, said sources. However police officials remained tight lipped over search and detention. A mild explosion was heard during late last night at Vivekananda Chowk in the heart of old city which damaged windowpanes of nearly five vehicles however no injury was reported in this explosion. Senior police official alongwith FSL team rushed to the spot and collected the samples to find out the cause of the blast. According to an eyewitness due to darkness, nothing was established on the spot either it was a mischief played by some miscreant or an anti-national activity. Meanwhile panic gripped the surrounding localities and residents rushed out of their houses despite late hours. Taking precautionary steps Police immediately cordoned the area and security has been intensified with raised check points and night patrolling. Pertinent to mention here that alert is already sounded here against the backdrop of surgical strike and escalated tension between India and Pakistan on borders.
