'Deport separatists to Pakistan for people to live in peace' | HAK challenges Geelani's hegemony | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 16: Students appearing for exams, public transport reappearing on roads, markets opening up slowly in Kashmir have left separatists high and dry. People defying shutdown and chalo calls have punctured their tall claims that they have got mandate of people to carry forward the agitation. On Wednesday the newly formed so-called Hurriyat Alliance Kashmir (HAK) comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Zaffar Akbar Bhat and others issued a statement asking people to follow their diktats in letter and spirit. A Kashmir watcher while talking to Early Times said, "The press statement issued by newly formed HAK is a significant development as it has challenged the hegemony of the Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who during the past few months has been busy projecting himself as the only leader of Kashmiris and other as second fiddles." He said, "The so-called agitation has fizzled out in Kashmir and people are questioning the logic behind the shutdown and are even expressing their displeasure about common people being made to suffer to appease their bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC)." An analyst said, "Geelani, who till yesterday was assuring people that Kashmir is close to getting freedom, stands exposed. People have realized that freedom and Azadi slogans are a mere rhetoric aimed at disrupting the normal life in Kashmir and an easy way for separatists to earn money." "Geelani and others are under pressure from their bosses to pro-long the unrest in Kashmir but separatists are feeling the heat now and are unable to call the shots. Demonetization has turned their plans upside down as their henchmen are finding it difficult to rope in the miscreants without any money as old currency notes are not working," the analyst added. Common man, according to the Kashmir watchers, has been pushed to the edge as more than 4-month long shutdown has spelled doom for him. "Common Kashmiri is grappling with number of issues. His children have been deprived the right to education, he has been unable to pay his EMIs, private sector has been ruined, transporters and businessmen have suffered losses in crores. Despite pushing people to the point of no return for the so-called Azadi these handful of people are claiming that they are representatives of the people and enjoy their full support. What an irony!" said a member of a prominent civil society group. He said, "People of Kashmir have realized that these separatists are their biggest enemies and they should be either put behind the bars or deported to Pakistan so that people in Kashmir can live peacefully. They (separatists) are the real problem and stern action should be taken against." |
