Multi crore new OPD block of Gandhi Nagar Hospital develops cracks | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 7: Three storied building of the new Out Patients Department at Government Gandhi Nagar Hospital Jammu worth of corers has developed deep cracks for last more than 3 years, posing threat to patients and staff of the hospital and exposing the quality of construction of Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation Limited (JKPCCL), the executive agency. "The new building was constructed to cater to the increased footfall of patients in the hospital OPD. The construction work started by JKPCCL in January 2007 and was completed in May 2008 with an expenditure of Rs 9.41 crore but due to the Amarnath land row, the building was inaugurated in 2009", official sources told. Official sources also said that thousands of people from cross Jammu visit and patients are examined under apprehensions that the pillars may collapse, but despite repeated pleas to the concerned authority to repair the cracked pillars and few others walls, no heed is being paid to their demand so far forcing doctors, staff, patients and attendants to work under panic. Raising serious questions on the working of JKPCCL as well as concerned hospital authorities, official sources question risk to the lives of hundreds of people including staff and patients. "Within eight years, the building has developed deep cracks which have raised question mark on the working and material used by the executing agency on vital projects, "official sources alleged. The hospital authorities have reportedly informed the officials of JKPCCL about the matter and since then they are waiting for the repair work to start. When contacted General Manager JKPCCL Er. N D Khwaja refused a comment. |
