Separatists losing support in Valley | Mirwaiz gets small audience at Jamia Masjid, blames Govt | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 9: It's official that separatists are losing grip in Kashmir. On Friday the Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said only a few people came to listen to him. The Hurriyat said there was only a "small audience" to the Mirwaiz during his address at Jamia Masjid in downtown area of Srinagar. However instead of confessing its failure, the Hurriyat has blamed the government for the poor turnout of people to the events where separatists address them. "APHC chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq strongly criticized the ruling regime for enacting a drama of releasing him from house arrest for two hours on Friday while imposing severe restrictions around Jamia Masjid to discourage people from going there in order to avoid the stigma of curbing people's religious rights and give an impression of so called 'normalcy'," the Hurriyat said in a statement. "Condemning the authorities for their shameless hypocrisy Mirwaiz said such deceptive tactics to hoodwink people and avoid international censure further expose the bankruptcy of the regime and its scant respect for people's rights and liberties as it treats Kashmiris as subjects under its yoke," the Hurriyat said. Sources said the Mirwaiz was embarrassed to see very less people having come to listen to his speech and apprehends that he lost his control on downtown where people are fed up of separatist politics. Some senior police officials said separatists are frightened due to the cold shoulders shown by the people towards them and that it would hit their "income from across the border." "These separatists are habitual of sending their pictures of addressing people to their masters in Pakistan but now they have no such picture left to be sent across the border via internet," the officials told Early Times. They said the situation was such that separatists feel safe in custody of police and avoid going around for the fear of public backlash. They said today's handout of Hurriyat having admitted "small audience" was an authentication from the separatists that they are losing ground. "Their game is over. In the coming days I am sure they will beg before the government to be under house arrest only so as to avoid contact with the people of Kashmir," said the officials. "What more can the government do then to let separatists move around? If people do not come to listen to them how can the government be blamed for the failure?" the officials said. |
