KISHTWAR, Mar 10: In order to express their resentment towards worsening law and order situation in district Kishtwar, the entire Kishtwar town and its peripheral areas today observed a complete peaceful shutdown.
The bandh call was given by the various traders associations of district Kishtwar District to protest the killing of a 48 year old leading hotelier Ishtiaq Ahmed Dar by unidentified gunmen on Friday evening.
As a mark of respect for the deceased businessmen and to condemn the gruesome cold blood murder, the general public of Kishtwar also supported the shutdown call.
As per the details available with Early Times, all the shops, business establishments and schools observed a complete shutdown over the brutal killing of businessman Dar and the failure of police to protect the lives of peace loving citizens of the district. The majority of the transport both public as well as commercial also remained off the road as entire Kishtwar town wore a deserted look while the house of the deceased witnessed heavy rush of mourners since the news of his killing by unidentified gunmen broke out which spread like a wild fire.
The body of the deceased was today handed over to his family members after the board of doctors conducted his autopsy in presence of the Forensic team summoned by the Kishtwar police from Jammu so that it can assist them in the investigation.
Meanwhile, the burial of the deceased was held at ancestral graveyard at Kishtwar and thousands of people from different walks of life including senior officials of the administration and police participated.
After constituting the Special Investigation Team headed by Additional SP Kishtwar Parbeet Singh, police begins its probe and questioned nearly a dozen people including some females beside also summoned some people who had talked to the deceased on his mobile hours before he was assassinated by the gunmen in near Kishtwar Bus Stand behind the dark lane of Jamia Masjid, Kishtwar. However, police failed to find any clue from the investigation and questioning of the suspect regarding the culprits who are still at large after committing the crime.
Meanwhile, the sources told Early Times that the non professional approach of the police officials led to the breach of crime scene adding that police failed to preserve the crime scene which could have been crucial evidence before the court of law and a vital part of the investigation.
"The first part of the investigation was to seal the scene of crime which was not done in this case --- secondly the bullet as well as cartridges were also picked up by the people who were present at the scene of crime--- all this simply suggested that police did not handle the first part of the investigation in a professional manner," said a retired police officer who was part of many investigations during his service.
He said that police even failed to bring the jars for colleting the blood samples and also fell short of to bring the cotton adding that the crime scene was not properly videographed as the position of the dead body was changed after some relatives of the deceased reached the spot and started mourning. He said that several videos circulated on social media suggested that even though police will manage to crack the case, but same will be weak before the court of law as the vital procedures required to be followed in these types of cases has not been followed as per the law.
