Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 28: 'Namaste! Jai Shree Krishn!'; directed by KK Raina with Ila Arun in the lead role was staged here today at Abhinav Theatre as a part of Jammu chapter of the ongoing 8th Theatre Olympics which entered day-7 today. The Hindi play is a slice-of- the-life story as the main protagonist leaves no stone unturned to make his parents like his girlfriend. Mohan, lives in America and is going to meet his parents in India along with his girlfriend Porky, whom he has renamed Krishna, to seek his parent's blessings and permission to marry her. The play opens in an aircraft, where Mohan is giving the last lessons of Hindi, and the Indian culture, to his girlfriend. But Mohan's plans misfire when his girlfriend Krishna is not able to convince his parents. The conflict starts and the house turns into a battlefield. The situation is resolved by a severely mentally challenged character, Sohan, the younger son of the family. In today's global world, scientific progress is changing the perspective of our lives. Different cultures are coming closer and uniting the world into one large family. This is an enjoyable and welcome human experience. But it also creates conflict of ideas, value systems, and beliefs, and most importantly about the existence of God. 'Namaste! Jai Shree Krishn!' deals with all these issues and resolves the conflict through a process of understanding each other and finding the middle path. For me, the play is a thought provoking comedy that deals with issues very close to our day-today life.
