| New Finance Minister gets 2 office chambers in Sectt | | Drabu's return to Cabinet unlikely | |

Jammu, Mar 28: Former Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu's successor and party colleague has dashed hopes of his return to the Cabinet by taking over his office chamber at the Civil Secretariat here.
Officials said while the office as Education Minister was in the first floor, Drabu's office as Finance Minister was in the second floor of the building. After Drabu's unceremonious ouster from the Cabinet, his room would remain locked. But now, the room has been taken over by the new Finance Minister
Officials said now the new Minister occupies both offices. "The Minister has kept first floor office for Education portfolio while the office in the second floor is being used for Finance department's works," said a senior official at the Civil Secretariat.
As per the protocol, one Minister even with multiple portfolios usually gets only one office. "But this time the protocol was changed as the government didn't want him (Drabu) to hold any office chambers in the Secretariat," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the decision to allot two office chambers to the new finance Minister was taken in consultation with the cabinet ministers from both ruling PDP and its alliance partner BJP.
"There were some issues like how could one minister sit in two separate offices as it would create confusion. But it was decided that New Finance Minister be given relaxation in the interest of PDP," the sources said.
They said the new Finance Minister keeps shuttling between the two offices very often. "He sits for a few minutes in one office and then goes to the other so that both are active and working," the officials said.
As per sources Drabu was hoping to be taken back in the Cabinet. "But the decision to take away his office was a hint that there's no such chance," said the PDP leader. |
