RTI Movement, VB College organize Plantation Drive

Srinagar, Mar 28: In continuation of its campaign on environmental awareness and using RTI law for seeking information on environmental issues, J&K RTI Movement in association with Vishwa Bharti College Rainwari organized a plantation drive in the college campus today.
The aim of plantation drive was to spread awareness about environmental degradation and measures of its protection. Students of the college presented a skit on deforestation and ill effects of pesticide use in apple orchards. SSP Traffic Rural Ajaz Ahmad was the chief guest on this occasion , he stressed upon students to become environmental conscious and opt agriculture to become agri entrepreneurs , this would not only help protect environment but will also give livelihood to our youth he said.
Founder of RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat highlighted the issues related to continuous dumping of garbage without any treatment in Srinagar. He said that Achan dump site will get filled up within next 3 to 5 years and there is no alternate site to create new landfill site. He urged upon students to start in-house composting of organic waste so as to reduce the load on Achan dump site. He also urged people to use RTI for seeking information about environment and allied issues.
Tariq Abdullah head NSS Kashmir University, Muzaffar Ahmad Principal V B College Rainwari, Dr Mushtaq Khan senior RTI Activist, Rufaiza Qadri head NSS V B College also spoke on the occasion and participated in plantation drive. Several students planted confer trees in the campus and pledged to take care of each and every plant for years to come.
