Darhal protests for GDC continue on 3rd consecutive day
4/15/2018 10:41:25 PM
Early Times Report
Rajouri, Apr 15: Residents of Darhal town especially youth today continued their struggle for the establishment of government degree college at Darhal as was promised by the previous government.
On the third consecutive day today, the residents observed complete shutdown and also organised protest demonstration against the government and in favour of degree college. The protests were lead by the youth of the tehsil.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) constituted by the people to spearhead their struggle has received support from the Beopar Mandal, Transport union and complete shut down and movement of passenger vehicle was also stopped completely.
"For the last more than one year people of the area have been demanding degree college at Darhal. But despite the assurances by the political leadership including the local MLA and Cabinet Minister, Zulfikar Ali, the government announced Degree College at Doongi in Rajouri tehsil and ignored the Darhal which was on No.5 on the feasibility list sought by the state government for the announcement of new degree colleges, alleged protesters.
They also alleged that their areas has also been ignored in every field as for as developmental works are concerned. Water supply schemes snapped years back in many villages yet to be restored.
For more than 50000 students studying in about 200 schools, including high and higher secondary schools the nearest degree college is at Rajouri or Thanamandi at a distance of more than 30 kilometres.
"As the parents of poor people can't afford the studies either at Rajouri or at Jammu/Srinagar due to their week financial positions, more than eighty percent students leave their studies in order to help their parents" said advocate ZA Malik, convener, JAC.
In order to press their demand of degree college , the people have decided to organise "Rajouri Chalo March' on Monday.
