Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 15: Even as the ruling Peoples4 Democratic Party had called a "crucial" meeting in the summer capital of Srinagar on Saturday to decide fate of alliance with the Bharatiya Janta Party, the PDP meeting ended up resolving that there was no option but to continue with the alliance.
As soon as the meeting ended on April 14, senior PDP leader and government spokesman Naeem Akter addressed media outside the Fairveiw residence of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and thanked the BJP for its support from time to time.
Sources said earlier during the meeting the party leaders are understood to have discussed whether it would be suitable to run alliance with the BJP or not.
Sources said the leadership unanimously resolved that it would be "suicidal" to break the alliance and those thinking on such lines need to understand that there was no option but to continue.
"From giving all support to run government to freedom to do whatever we want, BJP government in New Delhi is allowing us to work as per our will and wish, what more do we need," said a PDP leader.
Sources said the leadership resolved that some "blacksheep" within the party were trying to create chaos and confusion in the ranks over issue of alliance.
"What option do we have if we break the alliance. Let's all confess that we have failed to improve situation in Kashmir since 2016 and militancy in on deadly rise. Under these conditions what will be get out of breaking alliance. If we have to break it lets break it now," some PDP leaders are understood to have said.
Source said following this "brainstorming discussion" which lasted for around four hours, the meeting resolved that there was no need to put any demands before BJP for continuation of alliance but the government will run smoothly.
Sources said Mehbooba was already in touch with the BJP leadership including Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President Amit Shah and senior leader Ram Madhav.
Sources said the twin parties have resolved to work in coordination in future as well.
