Early Times Report

Rajouri, April 21 The last rites of Havildar Charanjeet Singh, who was injured on the LoC on April 17 and attained martyrdom on April 20 at military hospital at Chandigarh , were performed with full military honours at his native Kalsian village in Nowshera sub division in Rajouri district today. He was posted under Sunderbani Brigade and was manning the forward post when he was hit with a bullet fired from across the LoC. "I am proud of my brother who made supreme sacrifice for the whole nation. But he was the only earning hand for a family of about 30 people," said his brother. Charanjeet Singh is survived by his wife Neelam Kumari and two minor daughters , Amandeep Kour and Parvinder Kour who also laid Tricolour on the coffin of brave soldier while paying their tributes to him. The brother of the martyr has expressed his anguish against the state government as none of its representative came to meet them at Jammu while on way to Nowshera and even didn't care to enquire about his health since he received bullet injuries. He added that it is very shocking that we are sacrificing our soldiers frequently and Prime Minister Modi should take a decision against Pakistan for its misadventures on the LoC. Large number of people received the mortal remains of the valiant soldier at Nowshera and later accompanied the cavalcade to his native Kalsian village to attend his last rites. He was laid to rest with full military honour. Meanwhile management of New National Public school, where both the daughters are studying, has extended full support to them. "The martyr was very much concerned about his daughter's studies and was a regular visitor to school whenever he came on leave," said Advocate Prithvi Raj Khokar, school chairman.
