Early Times Report

The locals said that green felling is not only restricted to Keshwan, Thakrie or Bhunjwah areas of Doda and Kishtwar forest Division, but in the entire Chenab valley. The increased smuggling of timber, according to them, is the result of high demand for timber. While talking to "Early Times", the locals informed that the green felling is going on in Burdhar area of Bhunjwah, Richgot, Kukar areas of Patnazi also in Bhunjwah Tehsil of Kishtwar District. The people alleged that the police officials posted at different Nakkas were hand in glow with these smugglers. These people also called upon Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh to conduct an inquiry in to the green felling in Bhunjwah areas along with Keshwan range so that the guilty are brought to justice.
It is pertinent to mention that people found around 12 Green Deodar illegally cut near Wagi boundary of compartment No. 9-10/Keshwan and demanded strict action against guilty persons.
