Petrified valley needs courage
5/8/2018 9:58:35 PM
Sahil Bhat

The recent episode of unrest plunged via hardliners supporting radicalization justifies the valley contrary to progression. Such instances of stone pelting are beyond any count, but this one - bewilderingly takes notice owing to the target audience - the school children from Shopian. It makes one point is transparent now; all in the valley do not flag the banner of anti-India or cradle enormous detestation for Indian constitution. Assault on 50 students signifies quite a hostility perpetuated through hardliners among other people in valley to dismiss the moral societal doctrines that India felicitates rather than pitching against it.
Has anyone been able to curb the voices deployed for the divisive agenda? The answer lacks optimism as people choose to live in the baggage of empathy served by politicians every now and then. The fact is all the political parties during their respective tenure implicitly delivered a disappointing report card whose repercussions stop the development and eradicate the roots of change inside anyone making them petrified. Give these petrified people some courage. Boost their morale for still showing audacity of sending their kids to school with a hope of their enhancement. With more than 2,000 stone pelting incidents registered under the tenure of this alliance, the heart wrenching story of valley continues. As earlier it was Army 'on target' but now the children are even not spared, which kind of shoots the message of separatism, and boosting hooliganism over democracy.
Where Valley Lacks
Settlement of other societies in valley could add at least an iota of variety, discipline and enlightenment of proliferation among the people, which in the long run might add jobs to its graph, improve them economically. This further could result in acumen leading the valley to travel on the track of betterment and later on prosper.
Once can point the lack of proper education as an important area where it falls apart to indulge into. Education doesn't comprise of number of schools you continue inside your boundary but defines - what you teach there? Are the teacher qualified enough to meet the requirements of students? & what is the outcome; is it better than the previous one?
Apart from all this, unemployment strikes as a pertinent factor leaving all behind and crusading the obnoxious deeds among youth. It doesn't even deter women to take part in malpractices like pelting stone and develops a bad picture. Speaking of the statistics, valley has 24.6% of unemployment rate which is higher than India's 13 percent yet hanging in a bad way.
Both local governments have categorically failed provide a sigh of industrious life or any hope to find the means to curb the violence. They appear to be weak at the knees or they just are - before Hurriyat! At least, stimulate righteousness among youth.
Ask them: "Better to pick pens than guns perhaps that might work, because that way the government would register you on a substantial note".
