Sycophants destroy Premier GMC Jammu
6/14/2018 11:35:21 PM
Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, June 14: The phrase one step forward, two steps back completely suits State Health and Medical Education Department as they are focusing to establish more medical colleges but existing medical college GMC Jammu is deteriorating due to sycophants, are working with vested interests.
With the aim to provide secondary and tertiary care to the ailing population, GMC Jammu was established in 1973 a building occupied by Rehber-e-sehat, retired doctor recalled, wishing not to be named. By 2000, it attained reputation of one of the best GMCs in north India. It had great teachers and clinicians like Dr. NS Pathania, Dr William Reberio, Dr. Arya, Dr. Jagdish Singh, Dr. GL Dhar, Dr. Wakhloo and so on. There were excellent second-generation academicians and teachers too.
"But unfortunately for last few years it is seen that a few faculty members to keep their hegemony for personal benefits comes closer to the Principal GMC as well as the H&ME Ministries and then start misguiding them in view of their high motivational skills, "he told.
The disease of sycophancy started gaining peaks since September 2015, when a doctor won the election of MCI Coordinator for Jammu and became head of some a junior faculty.
A Professor and with his assistant, assistants in various activities in gross violation of MCI rules by using their official position and befooling Health Secretary as well as Minister got faculty posts enhanced in few departments where their favourites were desperate to get accelerated promotions.
He further added that they got the approval of enhancement of few faculty posts for their friends and well-wishers in Pharmacology, Pathology, Eye, Radiodiagnosis, Gynaecology etc vide G.O.No:164-HME of 2015, dated 11-05-2015 and G.O. No: 329-HME of 2015, dated 18-08-2015. Another doctor who was otherwise selected as Lecturer (Pharmacology) in Dental College got accelerated promotions first as Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor (OPG). Before this enhancement in Pharmacology department, there were already sanctioned 3 Professor, 2 Associate Professor, 3 Assistant Professor and 5 Lecturers post.
As per MCI norms of faculty strength for 150-MBBS intake capacity, the requirements are 1 Professor, 2 Associate/Readers and 2 Assistant Prof/Lecturer is needed. So, he got 1 post of Professor enhanced in Gynaecology vide government order referred above. MCI norms for 150-MBBS intake capacity, for the smooth working of Gynaecology department, the required strength is 1 Professor, 3 Assoc Prof and 5 Asstt Prof/Lecturers but ironically already existing strength before this enhancement was 3 Prof, 3 Assoc Prof, 5 Asstt Prof & 7 Lecturers, much more than the prescribed norms.
He alleged that they compelled administratively week Principal GMC, Jammu to send another proposal of further enhancement of faculty posts in various other departments like Pathology, Radiodiagnosis, ENT, Community Medicine and so on vide PMC L.No: GMC-J/PlG/314/2015-16/2551 dated 02-03-2016.
Besides, from the same coterie, another sycophant's junior faculty member became so close to the Ex-Minister that he almost became super Principal and started dictating her and misguiding the Ex-Minister. The said doctor preferred to accompany him during Minister's tours to far-flung areas, ignoring his basic duties of teaching medical students, performing OPD duties and operations. The fellow misguided Minister and got many blunders committed in various projects in GMC ultimately. The said doctor many times threatened various staff members as well as few faculty members also citing his close proximity to the Principal.
Presently, academics in GMC are at its lowest, there is a high degree of unrest in the faculty due to these sycophants who are working against the interests of the faculty members for their self-escalations and hegemony. The people at the helm of affairs must take some remedial measures to prevent GMC going to docks.
Sycophants have almost destroyed the whole atmosphere teaching and administrative reforms. They have led to the failure of at least two earlier Principals of GMC Jammu and are hell bent upon creating a sort of political atmosphere within GMC premises instead of making it a Centre of excellence for Medicare.
